Why Beach Photos in Tampa Should Be the Last Location Stop for Your Senior Portraits
By Nina | Tampa Senior Photographer
When it comes to planning your senior portrait session, it’s tempting to start the day at the beach because of the sun, the waves, the carefree vibe. But as a Tampa senior photographer (and Wesley Chapel senior photographer), I always recommend saving the beach for the end of your shoot. Here are 4 reasons why beach photos for your senior photos should be saved for last.
1: The Light Is Magical Right Before Sunset
The beaches in Tampa are beautiful, but they really shines during that golden 30-minute window before the sun sets. That’s when the light is soft, flattering, and warm, perfect for glowing skin and dreamy backdrops. However, those 30 minutes go by very quickly, so it's essential to plan beach portraits as the final stop to make the most of every second. Shooting there earlier in the day can mean harsh shadows, blown out highlights, and squinting eyes, which is what you don't want for your senior photos!
2: Less Crowds, More Space
Later in the day, most beachgoers have packed up and gone home. Fewer people means cleaner backgrounds, fewer distractions, and a more relaxed vibe for your senior portrait photoshoot. It’s easier to move around and get those picture-perfect moments without a crowd in the background.
3: Tampa Beaches Are Beautiful, But Limited
Don’t get me wrong beach portraits here in Tampa are stunning and everyones favorite because we live in Florida! But in terms of variety, there’s only so much you can do with sand and water. That’s why I suggest starting your senior portrait session at a more dynamic location such a park, your high school campus, a charming downtown spot and then ending at the beach for that golden light magic.
4: Book a larger senior portrait package
Choosing a longer senior portrait package gives you the flexibility to include more than one location and more outfit changes, which means more variety in your final gallery. Want shots downtown in a stylish dress, fun portraits in a field with your cap and gown, and soft beach photos at sunset? A larger senior portrait package allows time for travel, outfit swaps, and a relaxed pace so you’re not rushed through your experience. If you’re dreaming of senior portraits that feel like you from beginning to end, investing in more time makes all the difference.
