That does not mean you have to spend more than you need to. The goal is not to find the cheapest photographer. It is to choose the right coverage and spend your money on the parts of the experience that matter most to you.
Here are five realistic ways to save money on wedding photography without sacrificing the quality of your memories.
1. Choose a Photographer With Customizable Wedding Packages
Look for a photographer who offers customizable wedding packages instead of requiring you to pay for a long list of extras you may not want. Start with the number of hours you truly need. If your budget allows, you can add an engagement session, bridal session, prints, albums, or additional coverage later. 2. Consider Skipping the Engagement Session
This might sound like an unconventional suggestion coming from a wedding photographer, but I do not believe every couple needs an engagement session. Engagement photos can be wonderful. They give you a chance to become comfortable in front of the camera, get to know your photographer, and create images for invitations or your wedding website. Still, they are not essential for every couple.
If you already feel comfortable being photographed, do not need engagement photos, or would rather put that money toward wedding day coverage, it is perfectly reasonable to opt out. Choose an engagement session because you genuinely want one, not because you feel like it is something you are supposed to do.
3. Hire a Local Tampa Photographer
If you are planning a wedding in Tampa, St. Pete, or Sarasota, hiring someone local can help you avoid additional travel costs. Florida is a popular destination for weddings and elopements, so many photographers travel here from other states. Their work may be beautiful, but flights, lodging, rental cars, and other travel expenses have to be covered somewhere. Those costs may be added to your proposal or built into the package price.
A local Tampa Bay photographer already understands the area and does not need to fly in for your celebration. This can be especially helpful when you are planning a smaller wedding or elopement and trying to keep expenses intentional.

My micro wedding and elopement packages cost less than full day coverage because pricing is based on the number of hours needed. With a smaller celebration, photography becomes less about documenting a large event and more about telling the story of the two of you and the day you intentionally created.
It is important to be realistic about what can be photographed within a shorter timeline. If you are planning a wedding with 200 guests and a wedding party of more than 10 people, booking only a few hours will not provide enough time to photograph everything and everyone well.
If you are planning a true micro wedding with around 30 to 50 guests and a wedding party of about six people, three or four hours of coverage may be much more practical. A thoughtful timeline can leave room for the ceremony, details, portraits, family photos, and the moments that mean the most to you.
Spend Less Without Treating Photography Like an Afterthought
