Why Make Homemade Marinara Sauce?

Homemade marinara sauce offers a depth of flavor and freshness that store-bought alternatives often lack. By using simple, high-quality ingredients, you can create a sauce that enhances any dish—from pasta to pizzas and beyond. Plus, you have control over the ingredients, ensuring it's free from preservatives and unnecessary additives.

Recipe for Homemade Marinara Sauce

  • 4 tablespoons olive oil

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)

  • 10 - 12 large fresh tomatoes

  • 1 small can of organic tomato paste

  • fresh oregano

  • fresh basil

  • 1 large shallot

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional, to balance acidity)

Here is where i keep it very simple. It s time consuming process but totally worth it!

  1. Start by cutting all the fresh tomatos and coring them, take out all the seeds and so there is no tomato water. This is key to making the marinara thick and flavorful.

  2. Add the tomatos to a cookie sheet adding the shallot (cut it in half or 4ths) add salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, and fresh garlic. Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes unitl the tomatos are cooked and soft.

  3. Once it is cooled add put them in a food processer or high powered blender and add tomato paste, fresh herbs, olive oil, honey, Blend until smooth.

  4. Add the mixture to a sauce pan and heat when ready to serve.
